Uniforms for teams working at the Olympic Games are presented

Two million items were made for 87 thousand collaborators. Four colours for different work areas

This Thursday (12.05), with a performance by the Urban Dance and Light Show Company, the Organising Committee of the Paralympic and Olympic Games presented the uniforms that will be worn by the Rio 2016 team. The uniforms were unveiled at hangar 7 at Cidade do Samba in Rio de Janeiro. There are two million items for the 87 thousand collaborators, which will be part of the mega event's labour force, including the over 50 thousand volunteers.

The colours were inspired in Rio de Janeiro and the Games' visual standardisation. The uniforms were made by 361°, Chinese company that is an official supporter of Rio 2016. The items were delivered in 58 containers, which arrived in Brazil after travelling 45 days by boat. The uniforms will start to be handed out this Friday (13.-05) in Cidade do Samba itself, which is the Games' Accreditation and Uniform Centre.

Four colours point out the different work areas: services to spectators (green uniform), operational team (yellow), medical services (red) and technical officers (blue). In the case of the officers, who are referees, there is also a more formal version, which will be worn in some sports.

"There are people of all sizes and shapes, with and without disability, so adaptability was our guide. The roles are also very different, so versatility is one of the main traits", explained Rio 2016's brand director Beth Lula.

"The set will show the Games' live energy, which is what we want to show the world, with a lot of fun. It's important to be able to show starting now, so that everyone is able to see it and identify each element of the operation", said the Organising Committee President Carlos Arthur Nuzman.

Everyone is getting a green pair of trainers. The flaps of the caps vary in colour according to area. The trousers are practical, as they may be turned into shorts, while the backpack may be used in three different ways. The pockets' positioning have also been thought about strategically, taking into consideration collaborators who use wheelchairs above anything else.
